Here's What Our World Looks Like

I guess we're all getting some interesting weather. My online Australian friends are enduring the heat as are the Filipino friends with whom I grew up.

Here's what we've been given, with below zero temperatures:

We've probably got over 20 inches of snow settled on the ground. A lot more than that has fallen, but that's what it has settled to.

So, we're giving thanks for the beauty, the occasional sunshine, a warm wood-heated house, and lots of good books and food.

One of the greatest blessings about homeschooling is reading good books together, even after the kids are teens and Friday we started rereading Turn Homeward, Hannalee to go with our history studies. It's a very good, but heart-rending story based on the true tale of 400 millworker women and children who were removed from their homes and sent far away to work, try to survive, and find their ways because William Tecumseh Sherman (yes, the "war is hell" man) considered them traitors for making cloth for the enemy. After we finish this one we plan to read the sequel and thus get a feel for the reconstruction era.

What are you reading?
